When William Krebs Sr. opened the doors to his first Chrysler Plymouth dealership in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, in 1963, the communities north of Pittsburgh were beginning to experience significant growth. Route 8 was an important transportation route connecting Pittsburgh and Butler, and increasing automobile travel was helping shape the development of communities throughout the region.

As the automotive market changed, so did the Krebs family dealership.

During the 1990s, the Krebs family recognized the growing popularity and importance of SUVs and saw an opportunity to expand its lineup with a brand that had already established a strong reputation for capability and adventure. In 1995, while opening their second location in New Kensington, Pennsylvania the Krebs family brought the Jeep brand into the lineup. Adding Jeep to the dealership's growing portfolio began a relationship with the storied brand that continues today.

That relationship has a particularly meaningful connection to Butler.

Butler: Where the Jeep Story Began

Butler County holds a unique place in the history of the Jeep. In 1940, the American Bantam Car Company of Butler won the U.S. Army contract to develop a lightweight, four-wheel-drive vehicle. The design and initial manufacturing took place at the Bantam plant in Butler County, establishing the region as an important part of the early history of the vehicle that would become known as the Jeep.

The story is an especially fitting part of the Krebs connection to Butler.

Decades after American Bantam helped establish Butler County's place in Jeep history, the Krebs family recognized the growing importance of the SUV market and added Jeep to its dealership lineup in 1995.

Today, Jeep remains an important part of the Krebs family of brands—and Butler remains a community with a unique connection to the Jeep story.

After opening the second Krebs location in New Kensington in 1995, the family brought its Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep operations together under one roof in Gibsonia in 2003.
